Murder May Have Been Hate Crime

Lincoln Park police are investigating a reported hate crime that left an Arab-American man dead along a neighborhood street.

Ali Al Mansoop was shot and killed Wednesday on Buckingham Street, allegedly by the ex-boyfriend of the woman he was dating, sources told Local First News. Sources said that the suspect knew that his ex-girlfriend was dating an Arab-American when he went to her home.

The suspect found Al Mansoop sleeping and woke him up, then began shouting references to the terrorist attacks on New York before chasing him from the home,Local First News reported.

Al Mansoop was shot outside the home, police said. Neighbors said that they heard gunshots at about 6 a.m. One of the neighbors said that she looked out of her window and saw a white van pulling away from the house.

Police were originally trying to determine whether the shooting stemmed from a domestic dispute or because of the victim's ethnicity, they are expected to revealmore information at a press conference Friday, Local First News reported.

Sources told the station that the suspect had been driving around thinking about the Sept. 11 East Coast attacks before going to the woman's home and finding Al Mansoop there.

The suspect is scheduled to be arraigned Friday and could face first-degree murder charges, according to Local 4.
