Is Islam evil?

Notice the biblical scriptures on this page are purposely slanted. This is not to belittle or demean any religion. It is to prove a point, no one can make the claim they know what is at the heart any culture, by just using a few brief quotes or limited information.

The only way to learn about any culture is to read, listen, and learn. This process can take years.

Islam has been attacked as a violent religion. These attacks seem to come mostly from "Christians" who believe single passages of a religious document can act as standalone statement, or they can not be taken out of context in regards as what the religion.

These claims seem to come after a terrorist attack or Muslim extremism violence. How fair can an evaluation of religious beliefs when we look at it with a jaded eye.

Here are a few a quotes I have seen to "prove" Islam is a violent religion.

Sura 9:5 "So when the sacred months have passed away, then slay the idolaters wherever you find them, and take them captives and besiege them and lie in wait for them in every ambush,..."

Sura 5:33 "The punishment of those who wage war against Allah and His apostle and strive to makemischief in the land is only this, that they should be murdered or crucified or their hands and their feet should be cut off on opposite sides or they should be imprisoned..."

Sura 9:73 "O Prophet! strive hard against the unbelievers and the hypocrites and be unyielding to them; and their abode is hell, and evil is the destination."

Sura 8:59-60 "And let not those who disbelieve think that they shall come in first; surely they will not escape. And prepare against them what force you can and horses tied at the frontier, to frighten thereby the enemy of Allah and your enemy and others besides them, whom you do not know (but) Allah knows them; and whatever thing you will spend in Allah's way, it will be paid back to you fully and you shall not be dealt with unjustly."

Sura 5:51 "O you who believe! do not take the Jews and the Christians for friends; they are friends of each other; and whoever amongst you takes them for a friend, then surely he is one of them; surely Allah does not guide the unjust people."

Can you take any religious document fundamentally? Believe that a few verses, can represent the
philosophy as a whole? No! Even many verses may not represent the religious beliefs of any religion. To understand takes life long study of a religion.

If we complain about Christian beliefs are belittled because of verses taken out of context. The fairness demands we allow other religious be treated the same.

The following is an example of violence in the bible.

Genesis

God commands Abraham to kill his son Isaac. To prove his love for God Abraham agrees. Just before Abraham cuts his son throat God a goat to kill instead.

Genesis,

2: And he said, Take now thy son, thine only son Isaac, whom thou lovest, and get thee into the land of Moriah; and offer him there for a burntoffering upon one of the mountains which I will tell thee of.

11: And the angel of the LORD called unto him out of heaven, and said, Abraham, Abraham: and he said, Here am I.

12: And he said, Lay not thine hand upon the lad, neither do thou any thing unto him: for now I know that thou fearest God, seeing thou hast not withheld thy son, thine only son from me.

13: And Abraham lifted up his eyes, and looked, and behold behind him a ram caught in a thicket by his horns: and Abraham went and took the ram, and offered him up for a burnt offering in the stead of his son.

14: And they said unto them, We cannot do this thing, to give our sister to one that is uncircumcised; for that were a reproach unto us:

15: But in this will we consent unto you: If ye will be as we be, that every male of you be circumcised;

16: Then will we give our daughters unto you, and we will take your daughters to us, and we will dwell with you, and we will become one people.

24: And unto Hamor and unto Shechem his son hearkened all that went out of the gate of his city; and every male was circumcised, all that went out of the gate of his city.

25: And it came to pass on the third day, when they were sore, that two of the sons of Jacob, Simeon and Levi, Dinah's brethren, took each man his sword, and came upon the city boldly, and slew all the males.

26: And they slew Hamor and Shechem his son with the edge of the sword, and took Dinah out of Shechem's house, and went out.

27: The sons of Jacob came upon the slain, and spoiled the city, because they had defiled their sister.

28: They took their sheep, and their oxen, and their asses, and that which was in the city, and that which was in the field,
