Young earth?

To the editor:

The theory of evolution is a religious belief. Random House Webster School and House Dictionary defines religion as "something a person believes in devotedly." When we take into account that evolution ideology deals with the creation of life it take on extra religious significance.

Is evolution "just a theory" as defined by Webster's as "a guess or conjecture."

Much of this theory is based on questionable facts. One area of questioning is radiocarbon dating. Radiocarbon dating was discovered by Willard Libby in the 1940's. Science journalist and design engineer Richard Milton calculated half life (amount of time radioactive elements lose radioactivity) of radiocarbon, and found radio carbon had an effectiveness ceiling of 30,000 years.

Melvin Cook, a professor of metallurgy at Utah University used Libby's own data to show the age of the Earths atmosphere at around 10,000 years using radiocarbon dating.

If orderly science has created this solar system how can you explain: Professor of Physics James Trefil noted Pluto's Orbit is titled at an angle of 17 degrees. Pluto also rotates backwards as does Venus and Uranus. Jupiter and Saturn have moons that Orbit in both directions.

Discover magazine (September 1997) explained that our solar system seems to be special. It quoted Fred Rasio, a theorist at MIT. Rasio said "but as some level, you get the impression that most solar systems are not like ours."

It cannot be explained unless science, as with any other developing fields, does not have all the answers.

The most unsettling matter to us as a race should be the possibility of a God. Because if God exists how could we ever justify our actions to his creation?
